If you donвЂ™t install this package you can still configure the sane-backends using a text editor in the Terminal. There is also a optional SANE Preference Pane package available, which makes it easier to configure the sane-backends drivers. Before installing the TWAIN SANE Interface package you should install the libusb and the sane-backends binary packages. To use the interface you only have to install the binary package. The TWAIN SANE Interface is provided as a binary package and as source code. The TWAIN SANE Interface works with Image Capture starting with TWAIN SANE Interface version 1.0. I decided to make a GUI shell to interface with the command-line utilities, and I did this using RealBasic.

The trouble was that the SANE utilities are all command-line, and I got tired of typing. I had this problem with an HP scanner I picked up at a rummage sale, and was able to Get it to work using SANE.
